Connect

  1. Install Codex if needed.
  2. Download a compatible model in Magnitude.
  3. Open Connections → Codex and click Connect.
  4. Open or restart Codex and choose your Magnitude model.
Magnitude configures Codex’s local gateway and model catalog. Local model IDs use the magnitude-local/ prefix inside Codex. Keep Magnitude running while connected, including when you select a hosted model: hosted requests pass through the gateway to their provider. Disconnect in Magnitude and restart Codex before using it independently again.

Select a model from the terminal

To configure the connection and select a specific downloaded model, first find its exact ID:
Replace MODEL_ID with the ID from the first command, not the friendly display name. Restart the agent after changing its configuration.

Configuration

Default configuration files:
  • ~/.codex/config.toml
  • ~/.codex/magnitude.config.toml
  • ~/.codex/magnitude.models.json
On Windows, ~ means your user profile directory. Supported location overrides: CODEX_HOME. The paths displayed in Connections show which files Magnitude is actually checking.

Repair or disconnect

If Connections shows Connection needs repair, click Repair connection. To stop using the integration, click Disconnect, then restart the agent. Terminal equivalents:
See connection states if the agent is not detected or its configuration cannot be verified.
