Choose your package

Visit Download Magnitude and choose: Choose Intel / AMD (x64) for an x86-64 processor or ARM64 for an ARM64 processor. The Arch package is available for x64 only. If you need to check, run uname -m: x86_64 means x64; aarch64 means ARM64.

Requirements

Magnitude requires glibc 2.34 or later. Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12 and RHEL 9 (and its rebuilds) meet the glibc requirement. The desktop window needs a graphical session; magnitude serve can run without one, including over SSH. Your package manager installs required desktop libraries. GPU inference also needs a supported driver; see Hardware. Alpine/musl packages are not available.

Install

The quickest way is the install command. It picks the right package, verifies it, and asks whether to run Magnitude as a server:
Or open the downloaded package in your distribution’s software installer, or use the terminal. Replace the filename below with the file you downloaded.
Open Magnitude from your applications menu and follow Quick start.

Updates and removal

App updates use your system package manager. Click Restart to install a downloaded update; at your desktop it installs without a password, while over SSH it asks for administrator authentication. Use Settings → Application updates for the available actions. A server installs its updates by itself. Remove Magnitude through your distribution’s software manager. Downloaded models and settings live in ~/.magnitude and are separate from the installed application package. On a server, run magnitude server remove before removing the package; reinstalling the package without it keeps the server set up.
